Power Producers and Distributors Inc. (PPDI), in collaboration with Guyana Power and Light ( GPL), successfully facilitated a 20-day technical cross-training initiative, providing their employees that operated the plants at Skeldon under SEI, with valuable hands-on experience during a Major Overhaul (MOH) of one of PPDI’s engines.

PPDI Strengthens Technical Capacity Through Collaborative Cross-Training Initiative with Guyana Power and Light.
The initiative formed part of PPDI’s ongoing commitment to workforce development, technical competency enhancement, and the promotion of knowledge-sharing within Guyana’s power generation sector.
Throughout the 20-day engagement, participating employees were exposed to various critical aspects of the major overhaul process, including workshop operations, engine dismantling, inspection, component handling, and the stripping and rebuilding of the engine. This practical exposure provided employees with an opportunity to strengthen their technical knowledge, develop their maintenance capabilities, and gain a deeper understanding of the complexities associated with major engine overhauls.
The collaboration also created an opportunity for technical personnel from both organizations to exchange knowledge, share operational experiences, and reinforce industry best practices in engine maintenance and reliability.
PPDI recognizes that continuous training and practical exposure are essential to developing a highly skilled and competent workforce capable of supporting the evolving demands of Guyana’s energy sector. Initiatives of this nature are particularly important in building local technical expertise, reducing dependence on external resources, and strengthening the country’s capacity to undertake specialized maintenance activities.
The 20-day programme underscores the importance of institutional collaboration in advancing technical excellence, operational efficiency, and the long-term sustainability of power generation operations.
PPDI extends its appreciation to the management and technical team of Guyana Power and Light Inc. for facilitating the training opportunity and providing a supportive environment for practical learning and professional development.
As PPDI continues to prioritize employee development and operational excellence, the company remains committed to pursuing strategic partnerships that enhance technical competencies, encourage knowledge transfer, and contribute meaningfully to the reliability and sustainability of Guyana’s electricity generation infrastructure.
